Things I Do In My Sleep

Posted in Random Musings, Travel with tags , , , , on September 27, 2014 by Aaron

I’m a sleep talker. Sometimes a walker.

Every time I go to New Orleans I get possessed. The first time I was taking a nap while my brother watched something on television. He noticed that I was shaking and twitching so he asked if I was alright. I shot up into a sitting position, staring him in the face and demanded, “what….” He repeated his question. Looking him in the eye I evenly reply, “Yes. But watch out, we lost a face that way.” I turn and lie back down peacefully sleeping.

The second time it was the middle of the night and he wakes up to me inches from his face, kneeling with my arms on the side of the bed, staring at him. He asks me what I am doing. I reply, “You can’t wash here. You can’t wash here. You can go away but your make up will stay. You can’t wash here.” He tells me to go to bed and I say okay, then climb over him and get into bed next to him, once again, peacefully asleep.

One night I woke my wife up because I was standing up pushing the bed around the room. She asked me what I was doing and I told her that I was trying to go to the bathroom, but the bed was in my way.

My daughter and I have been listening to the Star Wars Dark Empire dramatized audiobook in the car. She loves it. Today when I picked her up from school she was super excited to show me a drawing she had made. She was also super proud that I correctly guessed who all the people in the drawing were. Check it out! I’m super proud too.Chloe Star Wars Drawing

Sometimes my daughter likes to do yoga with me. Sometimes the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

The Wheel Weaves

Posted in Books, Crafts with tags , , on September 18, 2014 by Aaron

A long time ago I read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and finished off by Brian Sanderson). An overarching premise is that everything has happened before and will happen again. Everyone has a destiny and “The Dark One” is trying to destroy the world by destroying the cycle. A common premise. Throughout the books he uses the metaphor of weaving to illustrate destiny. Phrases such as “the wheel weaves as the wheel wills” are common.

A friend started reading the books recently, so when I took my loom out of the garage and started working on a new project with my daughter and I almost immediately started connecting the dots. When you are weaving on a four harness loom, like I am, you have to make a plan before you ever touch a piece of string. Every inch of string has a plan from the moment you start. If you deviate from the plan there could be major implications in the finished product.

Good job Robert Jordan with a very precise metaphor.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is a fantastic band. I have seen them play a couple of times when I was living in Buffalo. I came across this video and it makes me want to share them with you. They always come fully loaded with energy.

The Rubber Duck

I saw this gif on reddit today showing the flight path of the Rosetta Satellite. It is extraordinary that the European Space Agency (ESA) scientists/mathematicians planned out a 10 year journey though space to send a satellite to meet up with a rubber duck shaped piece of rock traveling at about 135,000 kilometers per hour in the far reaches of our solar system. Congratulations to you!

If you have any questions about the mission, the ESA probably answered it here.

It has been a while since I made beer. The last batch was made in January for my brother in law’s wedding using my favorite recipe. You should try it…

Last night my friend David and I made a batch, aiming for an IPA. I have tried and failed many times to make an IPA. They were never bad, they just didn’t taste at all like they should. I’ve tried recipe’s and I have even tried kits. Nothing….

This time we have a secret plan

((way too many hops)).

The plan involves a total of 12 oz. of hops. I know, that is crazy! That would normally be about $50 of hops, however, David went to the newish beer store The Green Growler and everything was half off. Time to find out if not enough hops has been my problem all along.
