Barns Are Red

IMG_6533Did you ever wonder why barns are traditionally painted red? I was wondering this one road trip as we passed them along the highway. Since we live in the future I asked my wife to look it up.

The internet told us that barns are red because farmers are very pragmatic and resourceful people. There is a lot of rust on and around a farm and they were looking for something to do with it. By mixing the rust into cheap paint it acts as a preservative making it last longer, and incidentally also dyes it red and gets rid of that rusty stuff.
